The City of Malabon has been recognized by the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) as the city with the lowest crime rate in Metro Manila with almost 40 percent reduction of crime incidents in 2017.
The joint efforts of the Malabon local government unit and the police in enforcing police visibility, random checkpoints, and intensified crime operations in the city helped in achieving the lowest crime incident compared to other cities in Metro Manila.
Malabon chief Sr. Supt. John Chua welcomed the latest recognition.
“Police actions against offenders in 2017 resulted to five arrest cases due to pending warrants as well as apprehension of 353 violators of City Ordinances prohibiting citizens from drinking liquors and being “half naked” in public places, 38 individuals violating curfew regulations and 95 who committed traffic related violations,” the Malabon chief of police said in a statement.
The commendation was given by the RPOC that was chaired by Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and vice chaired by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Oscar Albayalde during a meeting.
NCRPO chief Albayalde then applauded the efforts made by the Malabon City police as it set an inspiration to other police stations to do the same.
“I commend Malabon CPS for the substantial decrease in the city’s crime rate. This should serve as an inspiration for the other stations to do better and for other policemen to emulate,” Albayalde said in a statement.
Malabon City Mayor Antolin Oreta III said, aside from the PNP’s massive campaign against criminality, this achievement would not be possible without the cooperation of the local residents.
Oreta said the ongoing city-wide installation of LED streetlights especially along previously dark thoroughfares in the city is also a good deterrent of crimes during wee hours.
The closed-circuit television that monitors the areas in Malabon for 24 hours also helped the city to pose a low number of crime incidents.
The cities of Parañaque, San Juan, Mandaluyong, and Caloocan followed the list of cities with low number of crime rates with 35.1 percent, 34.5 percent, 34 percent, and 28.4 percent respectively. /jpv
