A reported “smoke emission” has forced a southbound Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) train to stop between GMA-Kamuning and Araneta Center-Cubao Stations on Friday afternoon.
In a service report, the MRT-3management said the train operator reported a “smoke emission” near the door at 1:42 p.m.
An INQUIRER.net live video showed distressed commuters walking towards the platform of the Araneta Center-Cubao Station of the MRT-3.
The MRT-3 immediately limited its operations from Shaw Boulevard to Taft Avenue Stations for both southbound and northbound lanes after the incident. Normal operations resumed at 2:46 p.m.
Citing information from the control center, the service report said the smoke was “probably” caused by the electronic components under the seats.
In September 2017, an MRT-3 train stopped and offloaded passengers near Santolan-Annapolis Station after one of its seats caught fire.

MRT-3 Media Relations Officer Aly Narvaez said a fire truck has been dispatched in front of Mega Q Mart to put out the smoke from the train.
Narvaez said that MRT-3 Operations Director Michael Capati has boarded the affected train for inspection, and that the train is now being hauled back to the depot for further investigation. /kga
