Senators Juan Miguel Zubiri, Sonny Angara, Risa Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, JV Ejercito and Cynthia Villar were in Mindanao also to attend the public hearing for the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) at the Mindanao State University.

In a special joint session of Congress in July, both chambers voted to grant President Rodrigo Duterte’s request to extend martial law in Mindanao until December 31, 2017, after the attacks of the Islamic State-linked Maute terrorist group erupted on May 23.
