LUCENA CITY–Four passengers were injured when a Manila-bound passenger bus nearly fell off a bridge in Gumaca town in Quezon province Wednesday night after its driver turned sleepy.

A report from the Quezon police said a DLTB Bus being driven by Edy Casoco accidentally lost control of the vehicle while traversing the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Villa Arcaya around 10:50 p.m.

The bus rammed into a concrete bridge railing and hung onto it. The concrete railing prevented the bus from falling into the river seven meters below.

A report from the Gumaca Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (GDRRMO) said four of the passengers suffered injuries and were rushed to the Gumaca District Hospital.

The GDRRMO report said the driver admitted to rescuers that he was sleepy when the accident happened. Rescuers brought the other passengers to the Gumaca municipal hall while waiting for the company bus to bring them to their destinations.

Police said the case was being settled out of court.#
