2 Army soldiers killed in Kalinga clash

CAMP MELCHOR DELA CRUZ, ISABELA – Army soldiers clashed with suspected communist rebels on Tuesday, leaving two soldiers dead and two others injured in Pinukpuk town in Kalinga province.

Killed were Private First Class Edward Boggat and Corporal Jeather Langcay while Staff Sergeant Virgilio Jacinto and Private First Class Keaven Macaiba were wounded in the encounter, according to Capt. Jefferson Somera, spokesperson of the 5th Infantry Division.

Somera said the gun battle took place at 10 a.m. in the hills of Sitio (sub-village) Matayog, Barangay (village) Baay,

The soldiers were deployed to investigate reports of armed men in the area. Reinforcement teams have been sent out as the military pursue the armed men.   /kga
