Daraga town cancels Cagsawa Fest due to Mt. Mayon’s unrest

GUINOBATAN, Albay—Due to the continuous unrest of Mayon Volcano, the tourism officials of Daraga in Albay province have decided to cancel this year’s Cagsawa Festival that was previously scheduled for the whole month of February.

Richie Bajamundi, municipal councilor and chairman of tourism committee, told the Inquirer Tuesday that the funds for the Cagsawa Festival 2018 would be used for next year’s celebrations instead.

“It is our aim to make everyone celebrate resiliency through the Cagsawa Festival, but due to the worsening status of Mayon Volcano our priority now is the safety of everyone,” the tourism committee said.

Alert Level 4 remained over Mayon Volcano that is continuously emitting ash columns and spewing lava.

Local government units were still conducting evacuations in the villages within the 9-kilometer radius of Mayon Volcano.
