About 500 persons who were “fed up” with the Duterte administration’s “abuse of power” have joined the Liberal Party (LP).
Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat, head of the LP’s national organizing and membership committee, said the new party members took their oath on Friday night in Manila, Cebu and Naga.
“These are all card-bearing, committed, non-politician Liberals,” Baguilat said in a statement on Saturday.
Baguilat, who led the oath-taking in Naga, said many of those who joined the LP applied through the party’s online recruitment platform.
“They are a mix of professionals, from various sectoral groups, millennials, seniors, etc. who are fed up with this administration’s abuse of power, and who are looking for a space to come together and resist,” the lawmaker said.
Baguilat said the LP would schedule more simultaneous oath-takings across the nation for new recruits as he invited the public to join their party.
