The Department of Public Works and Highways has resumed work on the decades-old Mindanao Avenue extension project in Caloocan City and Valenzuela City.
Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said the 1.7-kilometer road improvement in the two cities, which first began in the 1980s, has begun anew and is now 30-percent finished.
“The project, which will link North Caloocan to North Luzon Expressway and Quezon City, is being fast-tracked in line with the Department’s program to decongest traffic,” he said.
The Mindanao Avenue extension segment was first started in the 1980s but was delayed in the past six administrations due to right-of-way issues.
Villar said the road segment would cost P118 milion and covers drainage, slope protection, and a street lighting component.
“When completed, the eight-lane Mindanao Avenue extension will significantly reduce travel time of motorists coming from Caloocan and Quezon City,” Villar added.—Julie M. Aurelio
