BACOLOD CITY—Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo returned to the provincial capitol on Wednesday morning after serving a 90-day suspension and after obtaining a temporary restraining order from the Court of Appeals on his dismissal from office for a separate graft case.
Degamo, in his first official action, issued a memorandum revoking all orders issued by Vice Gov. Mark Macias when the latter took over as governor.
The memorandum included the reinstatement of employees who were either removed or transferred by Macias. Degamo said returning these employees to their old posts would ensure swift delivery of government services.
The Sandiganbayan suspended Degamo in October last year over a case involving the alleged illegal disbursement of P460 million in the province’s calamity fund. —CARLA P. GOMEZ
