San Juan police have arrested the leader of a notorious robbery and motorcycle riding-in-tandem group after he was spotted at Barangay Santolan, Pasig City.
In a spot report on Thursday, the police said Marcelo Oñate, Jr, 42, leader of the Oñate Robbery/Motorcycle Riding in Tandem Criminal Group, was arrested along E. Rodriguez Avenue at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17.
According to the San Juan Police Station, personnel led by SPO4 Alfredo Gadia proceeded to arrest Oñate following a tip from a concerned citizen.
Oñate, who was facing an arrest for robbery, was involved in a hold-up incident at Barangay Perfecto, San Juan City last January 11. During the incident, Oñate also shot his victim, who was then confined in a hospital, the police said.
The suspect is now temporarily detained at San Juan City Police Station custodial cell while waiting for the issuance of commitment order from the trial court, according to the spot report.
The report said the entire Eastern Police District was tasked to hunt down most wanted criminals and conduct continuous operations as ordered by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Oscar Albayalde. /je
