AN UNIDENTIFIED man was shot dead while crossing a street in barangay San Nicolas, Cebu City, last Wednesday night.

The man was found slumped on the ground with gunshot wounds in the head and back.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, wore a green sweatshirt, blue denim pants and white slippers.

Jeepney conductor Ronildo Layos told police that he was waiting for a ride home when the man approached him and asked where to find jeepneys bound for SM City.

Layos said the man was about to cross the road when an unidentified man shot him several times.

Another witness told police the assailant fled on board a motorcycle driven by another man.

Police recovered three empty shells of a .45 pistol at the crime scene.

FRAT MEMBER KILLED IN TALISAY

A 48-YEAR-OLD man was shot dead in barangay San Roque, Talisay City, southern Cebu, last Wednesday night.

Juanito Dias Barnes Jr. of barangay Poblacion, Minglanilla town, was shot in the head.

He was declared dead at the Talisay District Hospital.

The motive for the violence has yet to be determined.

The killing could be fraternity-related since the victim was reportedly a member of Alpha Kappa Rho, said police.

Police said Barnes went to Poblacion on board a motorcycle.

A man on a motorcycle approached Barnes and suddenly shot him then fled toward Cebu City.

TANOD NABBED FOR KEEPING GUNS

THE CHIEF tanod in barangay Lamac, Pinamungajan town, midwest Cebu, was arrested after several unlicensed firearms were found in his house during a police raid yesterday morning.

Rene Echavez said he owned the guns and needed them for self-defense as part of his role as tanod.

He will be charged with illegal gun possession.

Police seized a .45 pistol, a .357 caliber, .38 revolver, a homemade shotgun, homemade 7.62 rifle and several magazines and ammunition.

Chief Insp. Herman Mallari said police applied for a search warrant after receiving reports that Echavez was seen bringing firearms outside his house.

A search warrant was issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Ruben Altubar of Branch 29 in Toledo City.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 8294 or illegal possession of firearms will be filed against Echavez, said police. CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON

MAN NABBED FOR SELLING NUBAIN

POLICE arrested an unemployed man who sold boxes of Nubain worth P300,000 in barangay Tungkil-1, Minglanilla town, southern Cebu, last Wednesday.

Giovanny Agujar Baya, 26, is suspected to be a big-time of supplier of Nubain in Metro Cebu particularly in barangay Kamagayan, said Chief Insp. George Ylanan of the Counter Intelligence (CI) section of the Regional Intelligence Division.

Ylanan said Baya was arrested in a buy-bust operation.

Police recovered boxes of Nubain with brand names Nalbin and Ashtec-10.

Nubain, an injectable painkiller, has been reclassified from a regulated drug to an illegal drug after its widespread use by drug dependents.

Baya was detained at the Fuente police station. He refused to comment on his arrest.

Ylanan said police were tipped off about Baya’s activities following the arrest of Leonardo Lim in barangay Kamagayan.

Police are trying to investigate the possible link between Lim and Baya. CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
