4 NPA rebels killed in Davao Oriental clash

Four communist rebels were killed in an encounter with the military in Davao Oriental, the military said on Wednesday.

Soldiers from the Army’s 28th Infantry Battalion (28IB) fought against an “undetermined” number of New People’s Army members at Sitio Palopalo, Brgy. Marayag in Lupon town past 1p.m. on Tuesday, according to Ltc. Ramon Zagala, commanding officer of the 28IB.

The skirmish lasted for 10 minutes.

When the smoke cleared, government troops confiscated one M16 rifle, four pistols, and one improvised explosive device from the rebels.

“These NPA terrorists are responsible for the spate of attacks on civilians and extortion activities. Their neutralization is a demonstaration of the AFP’s resolve in stopping their atrocities and protect the people,” Zagala said.                       /kga
