Army soldiers overran a New People’s Army camp in Brgy. Jongo in Lopez, Quezon after a brief encounter, the military said Tuesday.
Soldiers from the 85th Infantry Battalion responded to reports of extortion in the said village on Monday morning, said Army 2nd Infantry Division public affairs officer Cpt. Patrick Jay Retumban.
The Army troops figured with the communist rebels led by a certain Ka Mando for 15 minutes, leading to the takeover of the NPA camp.
There were 15 makeshift nipa huts on the said encampment. The soldiers also recovered three high-powered firearms and a generator set from the encounter.
No casualties were recorded from the government side, Retumban said. /je
