SAN PEDRO CITY — Members of the Batangas police on Sunday reviewed the last activities of Police Officer 1 Jay-R Cartaciano, up until he was gunned down in San Juan town in Batangas province.
Cartaciano, who was assigned in San Juan, was shot by lone gunman on a motorcycle 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The policeman died instantly.
Supt. Joemar Labiano, the town’s police chief, said Cartaciano was on his way to the police checkpoint in Barangay (village) Buhay na Sapa on the boundary of San Juan and Lobo towns when he was attacked.
Labiano said the killing was most likely related to a recent case that Cartaciano was investigating but he declined to give details as of the moment.
When pressed on whether it was related to illegal drug trade, he said, “Yes, that’s one of the things we’re looking into.”
The police traced back security cameras that may help them track the policeman’s whereabouts until last night. /je
