Detainee who escaped from QC jail arrested

An 18-year-old detainee who escaped from Quezon City Jail in December by jumping its perimeter fence was caught on Thursday, after hiding from authorities for nearly a month. A joint operation led by the city’s Bureau of Jail Management and Penology  and the Philippine National Police intelligence group from Camp Crame arrested anew JR Mananquil in an apartelle along Litex Road in Barangay Commonwealth around 3:30 p.m. Supt. Ermilito Moral, Quezon City Jail warden, said authorities had been tracking Mananquil since he fled from jail last Dec. 17,  just 10 days after he was incarcerated for carnapping and illegal possession of firearms.—JHESSET O. Drunk Caloocan policeman arrested for firing gun

A drunk Caloocan City policeman was arrested, along with his two relatives, in Quezon City on Thursday after he fired his service gun while in a fight with his neighbor. The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested PO1 Marcos Laggui, 37, his brother Julian, 30, and their relative Daniel Guillermo, 28, around 3:20 p.m. along Aguho Street in Project 3, Barangay Claro. A report to Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, QCPD director, said Ruben Soriano, a barangay public safety officer, saw the three suspects fighting with their neighbor and tried to pacify them. The policeman, however, reportedly pulled out his firearm and aimed it on Soriano, forcing him and the neighbor to hide inside one of the houses.  Investigation showed that Laggui then pointed his gun upwards and fired once, before firing it once more when the village watchman again tried to pacify him.—JHESSET O.
