NPA officer yields to military in Zamboanga del Sur
PAGADIAN CITY–The alleged logistics officer of a New People’s Army unit in Western Mindanao yielded to the military on Tuesday, a military commander said Wednesday.
Lieutenant Colonel Virgilio Hamos, the commander of the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion based in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur, identified the surrendered rebel only as Ka Jaypee, said to be a logistics officer of the NPA under the Section Committee Kara.
Hamos said Ka Jaypee, a resident of this city, also yielded an AK-47 assault rifle and several rounds of ammunition.
Under the government’s Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP), Ka Jaypee would get a livelihood assistance amounting to P50,000 and immediate cash assistance of P15,000.
Major General Roseller Murillo, the commander of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division, said other NPA rebels should also “come back to their normal lives and contribute to building a peaceful and sustainable nation.” Leah Agonoy INQ
