CEBU CITY — It turned to be all fabricated.
The police found out that the young woman only made up the story that she was abducted by five men to avoid paying the money given to her by school officials to buy books.
Chief Insp.Jacinto Mandal, Carbon police station chief, said they were mulling filing charges against Kristel Jade Wety, 21, just to teach her a lesson.
Wety, in the meantime, was in the custody of her mother after she claimed she was released by her abductors on Monday night, hours after the supposed abduction.
Wety sent a barrage of text messages to her sister, asking for help because she had been abducted about 8 a.m. on Monday by five men – three foreigners and two Filipinos – who were on board a black van with plate number PMQ 128.
Her distraught family then sought the help of the police, who in turn started a search on the black van.
Wety was later seen in a house in Barangay Jubay, Liloan town, northern Cebu about 8 p.m., or 12 hours after the supposed abduction.
She later claimed that she managed to escape from her kidnappers who tied in her hands and mauled her.
The police started to doubt her story when investigators didn’t find any bruises on her wrists.
A trace on the van turned out to be owned by a an executive of one of the country’s biggest firms based in Luzon.
Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak said the businessman was also talking with his lawyers to determine what case to be filed against Wety for inadvertently linking him to a kidnapping which she made up.
Wety later admitted to the police that she was forced to make up a story after she could no longer come up with P4,000 that the school gave her to purchase books.
She said she lost the amount and the school wanted her to return the money. /atm
