The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned the public against false, deceptive and misleading health claims by panty liner brands.
In an advisory, the FDA said it noticed the proliferation of panty liner brands that claim to relieve tension, reduce irritation, release negative ions, prevent infections, prevent myoma, prevent vaginal odor and hormonal imbalance among others.
While the sale of panty liners does not need FDA approval, panty liner brands with health claims need to pass through the regulating agency.
The sale or marketing of unregistered products that claim to have health benefits violates the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009, the FDA said.
False, deceptive and misleading advertisement by panty liner brands is a violation of the Consumer Act of the Philippines of 1992, the agency said.
It advised the public to be vigilant and take precautions in purchasing unregistered panty liners with health claims and panty liners with false, deceptive and misleading health claims.
The FDA urged the public to report sale or distribution of unregistered health products.
