Traslacion starts as ‘andas’ inches from Quirino Grandstand

This year’s Traslacion started as the “andas” (carriage) of the Black Nazarene started inching its way from the Quirino Grandstand, Manila, on Monday at 5:07 a.m.

Police said the crowd at the grandstand had grown to 387,000 as of 5 a.m. while devotees at the Quiapo church was estimated at 50,000.

The procession will head to the westbound of Katigbak drive to P. Burgos and follow a predetermined route until it arrives at the Quiapo Church.

It took the andas one hour to leave the vicinity of the grandstand despite the significantly larger police force deployed this year.

The Manila Police District earlier said it deployed around 7,000 personnel for the procession, with around 2,500 securing the 365,000 devotees at the Grandstand. /cbb
