Man dies after wall collapses on him during school cleanup

PAGADIAN CITY — A 41-year old man died after the wall of an old school building he. along with other parents, was tearing down collapsed in a remote village in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur, a school official said Saturday.

The victim was identified as Gary Dycausing.

Alwilwin Lague, principal of the Dulop Elementary School in Barangay Dulop, said the incident took place around 9 a.m. Friday.

Lague said members and officials of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) conducted a cleanup drive and also decided to tear down the old school building.

The walls of the old school building suddenly collapsed on Dycausing, who was pinned to the ground, Lague said.

The victim, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to the Dumingag Local Health Center and then moved to the LTMPC Community Hospital in Mahayag town, where he was declared dead upon arrival by the attending physician.

Lague said a funeral and burial assistance amounting to P10,000, two sacks of rice and grocery items had been provided the victim’s family. –Leah Agonoy /atm
