Fire engulfing third floor of Ayala mall in Cebu

CEBU CITY—At least 18 firetrucks responded to put out the fire that broke out Friday night on the third floor of Metro Ayala inside Ayala Center Cebu at the Cebu Business Park, a business district operated by Cebu Holdings Inc., an affiliate of Ayala Land Inc.

The fire broke out at 9:48 p.m. from the toy department of Metro Ayala located on the third floor. The cause was still unknown as firemen are still in the process of containing the blaze.

Fire fighters, who didn’t have gas masks, had difficulty going inside the place where the fire originated because of the thick smoke.

As of this posting, the fire remains engulfing the portion of the mall at about 10:50 p.m. Friday. /jpv
