LEGAZPI CITY—The Sorsogon police has confirmed that the illegal drugs recovered in a seashore in Matnog town in Sorsogon province was cocaine with an estimated street value of P120 million, and not “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) as initially suspected to be.

On Wednesday, Robert Galvez, a local resident, reported that he found a plastic container filled with suspected illegal drugs along the seashore off Juag Lagoon, a tourist attraction, in Barangay (village) Calintaan.

Senior Superintendent Marlon Tejada, director of Sorsogon Police, said the 25 packs of white powder in brown packaging tape weighing about one kilo each probably came from a different country and was carried to the shore by the big waves to the shoreline.

“It was probably carried by the ocean currents to our country. Shabu is mostly imported into the Philippines because it is cheaper than cocaine,” he said.

“This was probably dropped in the sea from a seacraft,” he added.

Investigation is still going on. /jpv
