SANTIAGO CITY—-Unidentified men looted a pawnshop using a tunnel they dug beneath the store on Wednesday night (Jan. 3) in Centro East village, police said.

The tunnel led to the vault of the Carig Pawnshop where documents, money and jewelry were stored.

The value of the stolen items has yet to be assessed, investigators said.

Found inside the tunnel, just beneath the pawnshop, were a steel saw, a hydraulic jack, acetylene, a crow bar and assorted tools.

The pawnshop has neither a security guard, nor a closed-circuit-television-camera system. The shop also had a defective alarm system, police said. Villamor Visaya Jr.
