Philippine sharpshooters’ team honored at arms show in SM Megamall

Members of Team Philippines who joined the 2011 World Shoot XVI in Rhodes, Greece, last October were honored for raking in medals and recognition during the opening day of the 19th Defense and Sporting Arms Show in the Megatrade Halls 1 and 2 at SM Megamall.

MANILA, Philippines—A team of Filipino sharpshooters was honored by Philippine National Police chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome at the opening of the 19th Defense and Sporting Arms Show (DSAS) Thursday at the Megatrade Halls 1 and 2 of SM Megamall.

The members of Team Philippines raked in medals and recognition in the recent 2011 World Shoot XVI held in Rhodes, Greece.

“It seems that our shooters are like wine, they get better with age,” Bartolome said in his speech after observing that most of the winners were in the seniors category.

Miguelito Hizon Jr., Jose de los Santos and Bayani Fontanilla Jr. won the gold medal in the team category-men’s open division (super seniors category).

In the seniors category, Philipp Chua placed fifth in the individual-standard division, Wilfredo “Tootsie” Anglo placed second in the individual-production division, and Dan Gonzales placed third in the individual-standard division.

Jerome Morales won the silver medal in the individual-modified division, Jethro Dionisio placed fourth in the individual-standard division, and Jag Lejano placed fifth in the individual-production division.

Meanwhile, in the juniors category Diomari Tayag placed third in the individual-production division.

The members of Team Philippines will be interviewed live and on-stage at the DSAS venue by DZMM radio on Sunday, November 20, at 5:45 p.m.

The DSAS is organized by the Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers and will run from November 17 to 21.
