Even if tropical depression “Agaton” had already left the Philippine area of responsibility, two provinces in Bicol still suspended their classes early Thursday morning.
The provinces of Albay and Camarines Sur suspended classes in their areas, citing the advisories of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In an advisory released Wednesday night, Pagasa issued a yellow warning or intense rainfall over Albay and alerted the public to take extra precautions for possible flashfloods, landslides, and flooding caused by the tail end of cold front.
This prompted the government of Albay to declare the suspension of classes in all levels in both private and public schools.
Meanwhile, the government of Camarines Sur also announced the suspension of classes in all levels for both public and private schools, citing Pagasa’s forecast that the province would experience moderate to occasionally heavy rains.
“The effect of this weather disturbance will aggravate the current situations in the province. Flooding incidents are expected to rise and landslides may occur in landslide-prone areas,” a memorandum from the provincial governor of Camarines Sur stated.
Earlier, the local government of Donsol, Sorsogon has announced the suspension of classes in all levels in their area until Friday. /kga
