Police arrested on Wednesday a woman who had admitted abducting a 3-year-old girl in Las Piñas on Dec. 30.
Hours later, they recovered the child from the suspect’s accomplice in neighboring Bacoor, Cavite, according to Senior Supt. Marlong Balongbalong, chief of the Las Piñas City Police Station.
The child, Princess Louisana Bumatay, was crying but appeared unharmed when found with her abductor’s cohort at a plaza in Barangay Mabolo around 10 a.m.
The child was located about four hours after Giselle Omayan, the vagrant who took her, was arrested in Barangay Zapote, Las Piñas, according to Chief Supt. Tomas Apolinario Jr., director of the Southern Police District.
During interrogation, Omayan admitted taking Bumatay and handing her to Sergio Dacallos, a jeepney terminal barker in Kawit, also in Cavite.
“Dacallos said they have been sleeping at the plaza for days so that the child would learn early how to fend for herself,” Balonglong said.
The girl went missing around 10 p.m. on Dec. 30. She was last seen outside her house in Barangay Ilaya in Las Piñas.
A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the area showed a woman, later identified as Omayan, entering the compound and taking the girl.
The child’s parents – Daisilyn and Nicasio Bumatay – reported the disappearance to the police only on Jan. 2 after putting up posters asking for help in locating the girl.
The jobless couple later received a call on the phone number they put in the poster from someone demanding a ransom of P3,000 to P5,000.
The caller turned out to be Dacallos, police said.
Balonglong said a concerned citizen alerted the Las Piñas police on Wednesday morning after seeing Omayan roaming in Zapote and recognizing her as the woman in the CCTV video of the abduction, which had been posted on social media. /atm
