‘Agaton’ displaces 5,000 people—NDRRMC

About 5,000 persons remain sheltered in evacuation centers due to tropical storm “Agaton,” the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

NDRRMC spokesperson Mina Marasigan said 1,435 families or 5,822 individuals were displaced and now relocated in 55 evacuation centers because of the storm.

Agaton also affected 3,879 families or 16,142 persons in 108 barangays in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Caraga.

Two were reported killed in Cebu but the Department of the Interior and Local Government has yet to verify the deaths.

As of latest, 582 passengers remained stranded in the ports of Sorsogon, Surigao, Cagayan de Oro, Ozamiz, Iligan, Dapitan, and Butuan, Marasigan said.

Agaton is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday afternoon. /jpv
