MPD seizes P35,771 worth of firecrackers, arrests 21

The Manila Police District (MPD) seized a total of P35,771 worth of illegal firecrackers and arrested 21 persons during the course of their operations against illegal firecrackers in the holiday season.

In a report on Tuesday, MPD spokesman Supt. Erwin Margarejo said 33 operations against illegal possession, use and sale of firecrackers had been conducted since Dec. 15.

Margarejo said the MPD recorded a total of 134 victims of firecracker-related injuries in Manila.

Two incidents of fire or burning due to firecrackers are also under investigation by the MPD, the spokesman said.

The arrests and confiscations of illegal firecrackers were made by eight police stations, its District Special Operations Unit, and District Police Intelligence Operatives Unit, Margarejo said.

Three persons were also arrested by three MPD stations for indiscriminate firing in Tondo and Binondo.

No victims of indiscriminate firing, however, were reported. /atm
