Tropical depression “Agaton” intensified Tuesday as it traversed the Bohol Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday.
In its 5 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said Anton was spotted 95 km East of Tagbilaran City, Bohol with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of 90 kph.
The tropical depression also accelerated to 25 kph from its previous speed of 19 kph.
Pagasa has raised tropical cyclone warning number 1 over 14 provinces, namely:
- Palawan
- Southern Leyte
- Bohol
- Cebu
- Siquijor
- Guimaras
- Negros Oriental
- Negros Occidental
- Surigao del Norte, including Siargao Island
- Agusan del Norte
- Dinagat Island
- Northern Misamis Oriental
- Camiguin
- Zamboanga del Norte
Pagasa advised the public to coordinate with their respective disaster risk reduction and management offices for possible flooding and landslides in their areas caused by the scattered to widespread, moderate to heavy rain brought by Agaton.
The agency warned of risky sea travel in areas under the cyclone warning, as well as over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and Southern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, and the eastern and western seaboards of the Visayas due to the northeast monsoon. /cbb
