The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) has allotted close to P340 million to set up training schools and offer courses to residents of war-torn Marawi City.
After spending almost P50 million for the skills training in 2017 of around 6,800 internally displaced persons in Marawi, Guiling Mamondiong, Tesda director general, vowed on Monday that his agency would intensify its efforts to help the city get back on its feet after the five-month siege by Islamic State-affiliated terrorist groups.
“There’s still so much work to be done for Marawi and Tesda is fully committed and determined to help rebuild the battle-scarred city to its former glory,” Mamondiong said in a statement.
Of the close to P340 million Tesda has set aside for Marawi, more than half (P188 million) would be used to train 10,000 residents in construction work. Mamondiong said that the training would be done in partnership with the various construction firms in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
