Student, trader killed, 2 others hurt in New Year’s Day mauling in QC

A 17-year-old student and a 30-year-old businessman died after being attacked during a drinking spree in in the early hours of New Year’s Day in Quezon City.

Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar Jr., director of the Quezon City Police District, said student Seahabodin Lumna and businessman Hasim Mohamad were killed in a riot between two groups on Camia Street in Barangay Payatas-A at around 3:30 am.

Those injured were Umair Abdulwahid, 28, and Salman Makatingki who were confined at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Based on a report submitted to Eleazar, the victims and their relatives were having a drinking spree in front of their house on Camia Street when a group of unidentified people who were also drinking several meters away from them got up and approached them.

Makatingki told probers the assailants started mauling their group. The assailants then fled on foot, bringing with their weapons.

Lumna, who sustained a lone stab wound on the chest, was declared dead at 5 a.m.

Mohamad, who suffered multiple stab wounds, was declared dead at 6:25 am.

Probers are looking into an old grudge as possible motive behind the attack.
