A 10-year-old boy was rushed to a hospital after getting hit by a stray bullet caused by his neighbors’ commotion on New Year’s day in Caloocan City.
The victim, Joven Earl Gaces, of Maypajo, Caloocan City, was immediately brought to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRMMC) after the stray bullet landed on his shoulder and exited through his stomach damaging the liver during the New Year celebrations in their community.
According to the report of Radyo Inquirer 990AM, Malou Graces, mother of Joven, said that their neighbors were quarreling at the height of the New Year revelry when suddenly they heard a gunshot at about 1:00 a.m.
Concerned neighbors later saw the boy bleeding.
Doctors at the JRMMC immediately treated the wounds sustained by the boy. He is now recuperating.
During the New Year celebrations, the JRMMC gave medical assistance to a total of 28 firecracker injuries from the eve of Jan. 1, of which 21 of these were caused by “piccolo.”
Since Dec. 21 of last year, JRMMC had recorded a total of 41 firecracker related injuries in their hospital. /jpv
