ZAMBOANGA CITY – A cargo boat docked at the port of Barangay Tubig Mampallam in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, caught fire on Wednesday afternoon, a town official said Thursday.

Jun Dail, the municipal disaster risk reduction Officer of Bongao, said nobody was on ML Aisalyn III when a fire started and consumed a large part of the boat around 1:50 p.m.

Dail said they suspected that a large amount of diesel fuel, which was on the boat, contributed to the spread of the fire – the exact origin of which was still undetermined.

He said there was no reported casualty but the esrtimated damages to boat could reach as high as P1.5 million. Julie Alipala INQ/asu
