LEGAZPI CITY – Two men, including a village official, were gunned down by still unidentified assailants in Cawayan town, Masbate on Thursday afternoon.
Sr. Insp. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, information officer of Bicol police, identified the victims as Rene Albaran, 41, a village councilman, of Candelaria in Uson town; and Bengie dela Cruz, 33, a driver.
Citing reports, Calubaquib said the incident happened around 5:35 p.m. while Albaran and Dela Cruz were on board a motorcycle, passing through Barangay Mactan.
Police said four unidentified men suddenly emerged and fired at the victims in the grassy portion of the village. Albaran and Dela Cruz died instantly.
A thorough investigation on the incident is underway to determine the motive behind the ambush. /kga
