The new coin designs circulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will not be accepted yet by ticket-vending machines (TVM) at Metro Manila’s three railway transit systems.

In an advisory on Thursday, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 management said the circulation of newly designed P1, P5, and P10 coins are not yet recognized by TVMs.

LRT Lines 1 and 2 and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 use the same TVMs as part of the unified ticketing system launched by the then Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).

For the meantime, the LRT-1 management said commuters may purchase single journey tickets and stored value cards through tellers at any station.

Commuters may also exchange their newly-designed coins for old ones with any station teller, the transit line said. /je
