The low pressure area east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur has developed into Tropical Depression “Vinta.”
Signal No. 1 was hoisted over Surigao del Sur and Northern Davao Oriental, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Vinta was last spotted 735 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. It packed maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 60 kph. It moved westward at 20 kph.
The tropical depression is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm before its expected landfall over Caraga-Davao Oriental area between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
Scattered to widespread rains are expected over Eastern Visayas and Eastern Mindanao within the next 24 hours, Pagasa said.
