Cop nabbed for stealing motorcycle in Makati City

Authorities have arrested a 34-year-old police officer assigned at the National Capital Region Police Office-Regional Public Safety Battalion (NCRPO-RPSB) after he stole a motorcycle from a Makati City resident and threatened at gunpoint another person.

A report from the Southern Police District (SPD) identified the suspect as PO1 Giles Buenaflor.

Buenaflor reportedly took Davelyn Labana’s motorcycle parked in front of his house located along San Jose St., Olympia, Makati City on Tuesday evening.

Around five minutes after, Labana said his motorcycle disappeared.

Upon discovering that his motorcycle was missing, Labana sought assistance from authorities.

“Pumunta akong police station at nag-report ako. Nung nirondahan namin ‘yung lugar gamit ‘yung mobil, sa kanto ng Obrero Hondrades, dun ko na-recover motor ko,” Labana told INQUIRER.net in a Facebook message.

(I went to the police station and reported it. When we were doing the rounds at our place with the mobile, we recovered my motorcycle at the corner of Obrero Hondrades.)

With the help of a bystander, assisting policemen subsequently launched a follow-up operation that led to the arrest of Buenaflor. Authorities also seized the suspect’s service firearm.

Labana said apart from stealing his motorcycle, the policeman also threatened at gunpoint a certain Danilo Nabayan.

Charges of carnapping and grave threats are poised to be filed against Buenaflor, who is currently detained at the Makati Central Police Station.

He would also be likely subjected to a drug test, according to the police. /kga
