Man holds son hostage on board bus in Caloocan

A man who was apparently high on drugs was arrested after he held his 3-year-old son hostage inside a bus in Caloocan City on Tuesday morning.

Ian Lacuesta, 29, faces charges of child abuse, unlawful possession of deadly weapons and frustrated parricide.

He was turned over to the Caloocan police while his son was placed in the care of social workers.

Insp. Alexander Vergara, leader of the Northern Police District team who responded to the incident, said an apparently drug-crazed Lacuesta held his son at knife point inside a southbound Phil Tourister bus, which they boarded around 9:30 a.m. on Langaray Street.

Once inside, Lacuesta stood in the aisle with his son, mumbling unintelligibly.

When the other passengers complained, the bus conductor told Lacuesta to calm down, but the latter warned him not to touch him or “magkakamatayan tayo (we’ll end up killing each other).”

The driver stopped the bus on Tanigue Street, near the NPD station, to let the other passengers out.

He then asked for help from policemen.

The boy was rescued unharmed while Lacuesta suffered minor injuries when the police managed to take the knife away from him. —Krixia Subingsubing
