The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is thinking about using thermal cameras to catch violators of the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane policy on Edsa.
Jojo Garcia, MMDA assistant general manager for planning, said that such cameras would help traffic enforcers screen vehicles traversing along the 24-kilometer highway and ensure that the HOV lane policy is being followed.
Under the HOV lane policy, driver-only vehicles are banned from traversing on the innermost lane of Edsa. Only drivers with passengers are allowed to navigate that lane.
“Isa sa mga solusyon dyan, ang thermal cameras. Makikita ang laman (ng sasakyan). Definitely magkakaroon nyan,” Garcia told reporters in a press conference at the MMDA Metrobase.
“Hopefully, maka-purchase tayo. Titignan natin kung may budget tayo,” Garcia added.
However, Garcia declined to provide a timeline on the process for procuring the thermal cameras. /kga
