ZAMBOANGA CITY — A week before Christmas day, a soldier was killed while two others were wounded when they were ambushed by members of the Abu Sayyaf Group in Basilan on Monday morning.
Police Senior Inspector Mujahid A. Mujahid, chief of police in Tipo-Tipo town police, said troops of the 74th Infantry Battalion were conducting route security when bandits ambushed them in Sitio Baunodagaw, barangay Badja, Tipo-Tipo town in Basilan around 6:20 a.m. Monday.
The soldiers were verifying reports of a planted improvised explosive device. /je
