PCG report: Stranded passengers down to 10,000

The number of stranded passengers went down to 10,000 from almost 17,000 in ports affected by tropical storm “Urduja,” the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) announced on Monday.

As of 4 a.m., PCG reported that there were only 9,775 passengers, 913 rolling cargoes, 88 vessels, and 20 motor bancas stranded in Central Luzon, Palawan, Bicol, Western Visayas, Southern Tagalog, and Southern Visayas ports.

On Sunday, PCG said that almost 17,000 passengers, 575 rolling cargoes, 118 vessels, and 34 motor bancas were stranded due to Urduja.

PCG units were still advised to strictly implement its guidelines regarding movement of vessels during heavy weather, as Urduja still hovers over parts of Luzon and Visayas.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) also advised against venturing on the seaboards of Palawan.

Urduja is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Tuesday, the state weather bureau said.                /kga
