“We need to be united to stop disunity that sometimes leads to violence,” Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle exhorted the faithful during the start of dawn Masses at Manila Cathedral on Saturday.
The prelate also appealed to churchgoers to weed out discrimination in their hearts, and to correct their tendency “to discriminate against those we perceive to be different from us.”
Tagle noted the Filipino tendency to cling to regional biases, dismissing Ilocanos as being too thrifty and Tagalogs as arrogant, without actually knowing the person.
“Let us stop our discrimination towards others; instead let us develop a relationship of giving towards unity and peace,” Tagle said.
