100 families evacuated in Sorsogon

LEGAZPI CITY—Ninety families from flooded and coastal areas in Prieto Diaz town in Sorsogon province are now taking shelter at the municipal building and residential houses as Tropical Storm “Urduja” brought heavy rains over most of South Luzon and Eastern Visayas Saturday.

Forty-four families from Calao and four from Lupi were evacuated to private homes at the town center after heavy rains caused floods late Friday and early Saturday, Rafael Ryan Bayoca, municipal disaster risk

reduction and management officer, said.

Meanwhile, 42 families from Diamante, a coastal village, are now housed in the municipal building.

In Bulusan, 14 families are at risk from storm surges and flooding in the villages of Dancalan and Sabang, Renard Garados, municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer of Bulusan, said.

As of press time, the Office of Civil Defense Bicol has recorded a total number of 190 families now in 12 evacuation centers all over Bicol.

A landslide was also reported in Barangay Union in Gubat town

Saturday, but it was unclear whether someone was hurt or not.
