900 families evacuated in Albay due to ‘Urduja’

LEGAZPI CITY—At least 917 families or 4,565 persons living in places prone to flash flood, lahar and storm surges were evacuated in Albay on Saturday due to the threat of Tropical Storm “Urduja.”

Mayor Ann Gemma Onjoco of Guinobatan town said 888 families or 4,440 persons from Barangay (village) Maninila, Muladbucad Grande and Tandarora were evacuated in Guinobatan East Central School and Lower Binogsacan School. These families were living in lahar-prone areas.

In Malilipot town, 18 families or 70 persons, in areas prone to flash floods and storm surges in Barangay 3 were evacuated to the Barangay Hall, said Zeus Borromeo, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

Sancho Alcantara II, head of DRRMC of Ligao City, said 11 families or 55 persons, living along river banks, were also evacuated in Barangay Baligang.# Ma. April Mier, @MaAprilMierINQ, Inquirer Southern Luzon
