‘Urduja’ cancels distribution of e-jeeps in Tacloban

TACLOBAN CITY—The turn over of electronic jeeps in Tacloban City, Leyte was cancelled due to Tropical Storm “Urduja.”

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board chief Martin Delgra were supposed to lead in the turn over of 15 e-jeep units to City Mayor Cristina Romualdez on Friday morning.

But Henry James Roca of the City Information Office said he was informed by the mayor’s executive assistant Sherly Gosoco that the turn over was cancelled due to bad weather.

The vehicles were intended to be deployed to the northern villages of the city where families who lost their houses when Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (International name: Haiyan) pummeled the city in 2013.

Lack of transportation to the northern part of the city was among the problems besetting more than 8,000 families that resettled there.

About 15 units of e-jeeps were supposed to be distributed to the city government that would be managed by cooperatives of drivers residing in the resettlement sites.

No new schedule had been given for the turn over of the vehicles which are temporarily parked at the City Hall grounds.#
