Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales on Thursday opted to keep mum over attempts to remove her from office until she sees the impeachment complaint filed against her on Wednesday.
“Until I get hold of a copy of the complaint, I have nothing to say,” Morales said in a statement on Thursday.
Different groups led by administration-ally Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) filed an impeachment complaint against Morales.
Ironically, the anti-graft body chief was accused of graft and corruption, treason, bribery, culpable violation of the Constitution, and betrayal of public trust.
Among those who lodged the complaint were the families and widows of the 44 slain Special Action Force (SAF) troopers in an anti-terrorism operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
The complainants said Morales betrayed public trust when he allegedly sat on the Mamasapano case and sided with former President Benigno Aquino III, who was later absolved of the charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide for the deaths of SAF men.
The complaint, however, has yet to garner endorsers from the House of Representatives. /jpv
