2 killed, 4 hurt in Sampaloc blaze

UPDATE 4:00 p.m.

Two persons were killed while four others were reported injured after fire destroyed houses on Loreto Street in Sampaloc, Manila on Wednesday.

Arson investigator Senior Fire Officer 3 Sany Lacuban identified the fatalities as Anastacio Cruz, 80; and Gerardo Lopez, 50. Meanwhile, two of those wounded were identified as Fire Officer 1 John Natividad and fire volunteer Trixie Cattel.

Authorities estimated that fire gutted around P250,000 worth of assets.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the blaze broke out from the second floor of an apartment at 10:20 a.m. and subsequently razed adjacent homes.

In a report by Radyo Inquirer, at least 30 families were left homeless as 10 houses were hit by the fire.

The BFP declared a fire out at 11:30 a.m. after the blaze reached 4th alarm.          /kga
