Bomb scare disrupts classes at Navotas school

Classes in an elementary school in Navotas City were ordered suspended on Tuesday following a bomb scare, a school official confirmed.

Tangos Elementary School officer-in-charge (OIC) Principal Cristino Alejo said that the school administrators ordered the immediate evacuation of students from the building after a staff received a call from someone who said there was a bomb inside the campus.

Alejo said they received the call around 6:15 a.m. from a still unidentified person.

The administrators then immediately called the police to ask for assistance.

Members of the bomb squad from the Northern Police District searched the area for any explosives but it turned out the call was a hoax.

Alejo said the school administration resumed the classes in the afternoon.

The school official expressed frustration on the incident, saying that such threat is not something to make fun of.

“Hindi po iyan isang magandang biro. Nalalagay sa alanganin ang kaligtasan ng mga bata,” he told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview.

(It’s not a good joke. The children’s safety is being put at stake here.)

“Bigyan natin sila ng karapatang makapag-aral ng maayos,” he added.
