3 missing Pangasinan fishermen found

DAGUPAN CITY — (Updated) Three Pangasinan fishermen, who were earlier reported missing in the West Philippine Sea, have been rescued by Agno town fishermen on Sunday, according to Cato village chief Charlito Maniago of Infanta town.

Roy Mas, Diosdado Gumtang and Ariel Gumtang were found around 7 a.m. not far from where their boat sank on Dec. 8, according to Maniago.

The three fishermen were part of a five-man crew of the fishing boat MB Vanze Allen which sailed to the West Philippine Sea on Dec. 5.

The boat was battered by huge waves and sank about 30 nautical miles west of Infanta.

Two of the boat’s crew members, Felipe Arabis and Alejandro Ali, launched and boarded one of the two small motorboats attached to the fishing boat.

Mas and the Gumtangs were unable to use the other small boat because its engine was not working.

Maniago said a passing fishing boat, MB Marvin, spotted Arabis and Ali and guided them to the coastal village of Tambobong in Dasol town.

He said Mas and the Gumtangs where taken by their rescuers to Barangay Macaboboni in Agno, where they were fetched and taken to Infanta. /je
