Drug suspect slain months after leaving Taguig jail

/ 06:44 AM December 08, 2017

A drug suspect man who got out of jail nine months ago was shot dead by unidentified gunmen who barged into the room he was renting in Taguig City shortly after midnight on Thursday.

Police said Nomer Salonga, 27, was asleep next to his girlfriend when the assailants entered their room on J. Ramos Street, Barangay Ligid-Tipas.

Senior Supt. Alexander Santos, Taguig police chief, said neighbors heard a series of gunshots but could not provide any clear description of the fleeing gunmen as there was a power outage in the area at the time. A folded aluminum foil was found near Salonga’s body, Santos said.

The victim’s mother, Rosalia, said her son, who was earlier arrested for drug possession, walked out of jail in March.  She added that Salonga had “many enemies” in their neighborhood and received death threats after regaining his freedom. —Dexter Cabalza
